Artist Profile
Mary Jane Zissoff
In l975 I began my "Custom Glass Art" studies with Nancy Goodman. Nancy and her husband, Russell C. Goodman, C.M., had executed the Provincial Flowers in the House of Commons, Parliament Buildings, Ottawa. Through these studies I was introduced to glass in its many forms: antique, machine made, textured, architectual, flashed, dalle de verre. The colours of glass intensified by light, either natural or artificial, has always facinated me!
I formed Trilogy of Art in l980 designing windows for the Housing Industry in the Toronto area. Model Homes were enhanced with custom glass art to compliment the decor. I worked with Interior Designers to choose designs and colours of glass to emphasize the beauty of the Model Home.
I received a Wintario Grant in l98l to study "Custom Glass Art" with Paul Marioni,
a contemporary American Artist, in Banff, Alberta at the Banff School of Fine Arts.
I enjoy the process of design in consultation with the client. Many factors are to be considered: Design Interpretation - personal, goemetric, traditional contemporary; Glass - colour selection, the makret of today affords a full choise of ie. streaky, seedy, stiriations, textures,`baroque; Location - sunlight values to be considered - protection of glass for outside locations.
The beauty of Custom Glass Art can only be achieved when the decor is enhanced with
design and colour to compliment the specific area. Glass is forever!
Consider the wonderful windows of Chartres Cathedral in France, executed in beautiful glass during the l2th Century.
Over a period of 29 years I have been working with glass I have customed designed windows, lampshades, mosaics in grout, suncathers, nightlights and boxes.
